On April 17, 2025, a shooting incident occurred at Florida State University, resulting in two fatalities and approximately six injuries, as reported by various sources.

The suspected shooter has been named as Phoenix Ikner, a 20-year-old believed to be the son of a police officer. It is alleged that he utilized his mother’s former service weapon during the attack.

During a press briefing at the White House, President Donald Trump commented on the tragic event, stating to reporters, “These incidents are dreadful.”

In his remarks, Trump reaffirmed his commitment to the Second Amendment, declaring himself “a strong supporter of the Second Amendment” and emphasizing that he has “protected it from the outset.”

Regarding the violent occurrence, Trump remarked, “The gun does not pull the trigger; it is the individuals who do.”

He added, “It is unfortunate that I am only now learning about this; I am familiar with the area and the school. We will provide further updates later, and we will see how things unfold,” the President stated.

When pressed by the media to clarify his comment about ‘seeing what happens,’ he responded, “This pertains solely to potential legislative actions, as this issue has persisted for a considerable time.”

However, he did succinctly clarify that “I have an obligation to protect the Second Amendment.”

The President remarked, “I campaigned on the Second Amendment, among other issues, and I will consistently defend it.”

Many individuals expressed dissatisfaction with Trump’s reaction. One commenter stated, “I apologize for the deceased, but my passion for firearms remains.” Their remains are not even cold yet. This is utterly disgraceful and un-Christian.”

Another user on X commented, “Trump’s reaction to the FSU shooting is insensitive; his assertion that ‘guns don’t shoot, people do’ overlooks the tragedy and the urgent need for effective solutions. His fixation on the Second Amendment silences the voices of the victims.”

Another frustrated individual commented, “Such incidents seldom occur in nations without firearms. They all have people.” An additional irate user remarked, “The gun itself does the shooting. He is an idiot.”

The alleged shooter was shot and transported to the hospital, where Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell reported that he is receiving treatment for injuries that are serious but not life-threatening.

The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and the identities of the deceased and injured individuals have not yet been disclosed.
