Trump slammed for posting ‘racist’ video depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys

Donald Trump is known for pushing boundaries online, but many critics say this time he has crossed a clear line.

A recent post on his Truth Social account has been widely condemned as “vile” after featuring Barack and Michelle Obama portrayed as monkeys.

“Disgusting behavior by the President”

The outrage centers on a video Trump shared that ends with a brief but shocking shot of the former president and first lady’s faces edited onto monkeys. The clip, which runs about a minute, promotes the debunked claim that the 2020 election was “stolen” by Dominion Voting Systems and has been denounced as blatantly racist.

For roughly two seconds, the Obamas’ faces appear on dancing monkeys set to the song The Lion Sleeps Tonight. By Friday morning, the post had accumulated more than 2,500 likes and over 1,100 shares.

“Disgusting behavior by the President. Every single Republican must denounce this. Now,” read a statement from the press office of California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Political strategist Adam Parkhomenko was equally direct: “This is overt racism. Full stop. There’s no ‘misinterpretation’ and no excuse. This is who he is, who he’s always been, and why he should never be anywhere near power again.”

Everyday users on social media also weighed in sharply. One person wrote: “Being a racist, and posting racist memes, places you on the ladder rung two steps below contempt. I’d call you a pig, but that would be doing a grave disservice to pigs around the world. The world awaits your political demise with great anticipation.”

According to Unilad, another former supporter commented: “Can’t believe I voted for you, Mr. President. It’s a new low every day.”

Not everyone was critical, however. Some commenters defended Trump, with one writing, “God bless you, Sir!” and another insisting, “Stop the voter fraud. Republicans need to grow a spine and pass legislation to end the cheating.”

The controversial video was just one of more than 60 posts Trump fired off on Truth Social in the span of three hours. The flurry also included repeated false claims about the 2020 election, promotion of a Super Bowl commercial, and even calls for his face to be added to Mount Rushmore.

Following the backlash, the White House responded. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the image came from an online meme.

“This is from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from The Lion King. Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public.”

As of now, Barack and Michelle Obama have not publicly commented on the video.
