Melania Trump’s time as First Lady of the United States has, much like her husband Donald Trump, been quite tumultuous. Although she has made several public appearances, Melania has predominantly chosen to maintain her privacy. Recently, a new poll reveals the public’s perception of her role as First Lady in comparison to her predecessors.

Prior to Melania Trump and her husband Donald Trump returning to the White House in January of last year, the First Lady expressed that her second experience in Washington would be distinct. The former model, originally from Slovenia, indicated that she would split her time among Washington, Palm Beach, and New York City, all while fulfilling her responsibilities.

While Melania has persisted with her Be Best initiative, her second term as First Lady has primarily centered around her documentary. She announced the commencement of the film’s production just before her husband’s second presidential inauguration.

Reports indicate that Amazon acquired the filming rights to the documentary for $40 million, which was released in January. The film has garnered mixed reviews; nevertheless, Melania herself expressed great satisfaction with the final product.

“I take great pride in the film, and while some may appreciate it and others may not, that is entirely their prerogative,” she stated to CNN just prior to the documentary’s release. “We accomplished our goals. Personally, I consider it a success. I am extremely proud of our achievements.”

A new poll sheds light on American perceptions of Melania Trump during her tenure as first lady.

As Donald Trump faces challenges in the polls leading up to the midterm elections, many may be curious about the public’s opinion of Melania Trump. A recent YouGov poll may provide some insights.

The poll indicates that it “was conducted online with 2,255 adult participants across two distinct surveys from February 2 – 5 and February 3-5.”

YouGov clarified, “A random sample (stratified by gender, age, race, education, geographic region, and voter registration) was drawn from the 2019 American Community Survey. The sample was adjusted based on gender, age, race, education, anticipated 2024 presidential vote, 2020 election turnout and presidential vote, baseline party identification, and current voter registration status.”

What were the findings of the poll? It reveals that Melania has an approval rating of -16, which is lower than that of the former first lady, Jill Biden (-9). Nevertheless, Melania’s approval rating surpasses that of Hilary Clinton, who recorded a -17 rating.

Other First Ladies have significantly higher approval ratings. Nancy Reagan has a rating of +25, Lady Bird Johnson at +23, Rosalynn Carter at +32, and Barbara Bush at +21. Michelle Obama received +21, while Laura Bush garnered +19.

Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis is the most popular.

Nevertheless, the one who achieved the highest rating by far is Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the First Lady and spouse of President John F. Kennedy. She served as First Lady from 1961 to 1963 and attained an approval rating of +56, as per a YouGov survey.

Melania’s approval rating was more favorable among Republican voters compared to Democrats.
