Meghan Markle’s ShopMy Closet is a ‘smart move’ as she makes ‘strategic’ step back into the spotlight
Meghan posted the first items on her ShopMy page earlier this week
Meghan Markle has introduced her newest project, and it’s attracting attention for various reasons. The Duchess of Sussex has recently launched a curated ShopMy page that showcases luxury fashion items she has worn or endorses, enabling her followers to purchase her styles while she earns a commission on the sales.
Although this idea is common among Instagram influencers, Meghan Markle’s foray into affiliate marketing is generating discussion. Nevertheless, branding specialists have commended it as a strategic and clever way to re-enter the public sphere.

Meghan Markle’s ShopMy page is ‘strategic’
PR and personal branding expert Mayah Riaz shared with The Mirror that Meghan’s decision is intentional and could signify a significant shift.
“By creating a ShopMy account, Meghan is following a trend seen among prominent figures who are expanding their revenue sources,” Mayah noted. “Although this strategy is typical for Instagram influencers, Meghan is not merely positioning herself as one of them.
“She is, in fact, utilizing her brand to connect with an audience that is already deeply engaged with her fashion and lifestyle preferences.”
From a sleek white Heidi Merrick dress to an opulent Loro Piana sweater costing over £1,000, Meghan’s selected items strongly reflect her sophisticated personal brand. This indicates that she is well aware of her target audience.
The timing is ‘no coincidence’
Meghan’s entry into affiliate fashion marketing coincides with her rising visibility across various platforms.
Her new Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, has just premiered, and the first trailer for her podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, has been released. Additionally, her brand, As Ever, is preparing for its launch.
Mayah believes this timing is intentional.
“We’ve noticed Meghan stepping back from the limelight,” she remarked. “Her recent activity on Instagram is a calculated move to re-establish her presence in the public eye.”
The expert noted that this shift allows Meghan to have “direct control over her brand narrative” and interact more with her audience. She praised the Duchess for being ‘smart’ in diversifying her income sources rather than depending solely on major contracts with platforms like Netflix and Spotify.

“A pivot, not a step down”
Some critics may perceive this decision as a step down from the high-profile partnerships with Netflix and Spotify. However, Mayah presents a different perspective.
The public relations expert suggests that for the royal to achieve success, she must maintain an image of being ‘authentic’ to her audience.
Earlier this week, Meghan’s ShopMy link was quietly launched. On the same day, fans also got a sneak peek of her upcoming podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, which is part of a new collaboration with Lemonada Media.
In the trailer, Meghan introduces the show by saying, “I’m Meghan, and this is Confessions Of A Female Founder. It’s a platform where I engage with female entrepreneurs and friends about the sleepless nights, the lessons learned, and the intense focus that propelled them to their current success.”
