Man shares haunting final text from wife aboard American Airlines Flight 5342 just before crash
Hamaad Raza, whose wife was on American Airlines Flight 5342 when it crashed into a US military helicopter, shared the last message she sent him.
The flight was on its way from Wichita, Kansas, to Washington DC and went down around 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
In a touching interview with WUSA9, Raza mentioned that his wife texted him, “Landing in 20 minutes.” When he didn’t get a response, he started to worry something was wrong.
Raza explained that his wife often traveled to Wichita for work but was scared of flying and never felt at ease on planes, as he told reporter Larry Miller.
“I’m just hoping that someone is rescuing her from the river right now,” he said.

“That’s all I can pray for, I’m just praying to God”, desperate Raza told WUSA9.
American Airlines Flight 5342 was transporting 60 passengers and four crew members when it suddenly fell into the freezing Potomac River. A helicopter was also involved, carrying three soldiers.
Witnesses mentioned that some members of the U.S. Figure Skating team were on the plane during the accident.
The organization stated, “These athletes, coaches, and their families were coming back from the National Development Camp that took place alongside the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas.”

As per the BBC, Around 300 rescuers in inflatable boats have been dispatched to the Potomac River to look for survivors, according to John Donnelly, the chief of fire and emergency services in Washington, DC.
“The challenge is access, there is wind, pieces of ice (on the water). It is dangerous and hard to work in,” Donelly said.
Later, Donelly said, “Even though they tried really hard, we have reached a stage where we are moving from trying to save people to focusing on finding and collecting what we can. Right now, we think there are no survivors left from this accident.”
