Man becomes single dad to quadruplets after wife dies giving birth

It’s hard to put into words the feelings we experience when we first learn that we’re going to be parents. Whether we’re going to be moms or dads, most of us feel a huge wave of joy at the thought of having a child.
Right away, we start to think about all the hopes we have. We might imagine what our baby will look like or think about all the fun things we’ll teach them and share with them. Many of us can’t wait to hold our little one for the very first time.
Unfortunately, not every pregnancy leads to the happy ending that many of us expect. Carlos Morales from Phoenix, Arizona knows this painful reality all too well, and his story shows just how complicated life can be.
Carlos and Erica Morales seemed like the perfect couple. They started dating in 2006 after meeting at a nightclub in Scottsdale, Arizona. Even though they had trouble communicating—Carlos didn’t know English and Erica didn’t know Spanish—they were clearly drawn to each other.
Reports say that Carlos and Erica spent most of that first night dancing together. When the club closed, Carlos wrote his phone number on a piece of paper and gave it to Erica, leaving it up to her to decide what to do next.
Erica ended up losing the paper with Carlos’s number, and that could have been the end of their story. But it seems that fate had something else in store for them.
The couple met again, this time through mutual friends, and before long they realized that their feelings for one another were real.
Carlos was really dedicated, so he decided to learn English to talk better with Erica. At the same time, Erica was busy learning Spanish.
The happy couple tied the knot in Las Vegas in 2007 and soon started dreaming about having a family.
“Look at these blessings. Even when they scream their heads off, I want to give them the biggest kiss.” That’s what…
Their first try to start a family didn’t go as planned, and they faced a heartbreaking miscarriage. But with the help of fertility treatments, Erica got pregnant again, and this time they were in for a big surprise.
During her first sonogram, the doctors revealed that Erica wasn’t just having one baby; she was having four!
As the months went by, Carlos and Erica prepared to welcome quadruplets. Carrying four babies was tough on Erica, so Carlos stepped up to help her by cooking and cleaning around the house.
On January 12, 2015, Erica had to go to the hospital because of high blood pressure. Before Carlos could get there, she sent him a text saying the doctors needed to deliver the babies right away because she was having contractions.
When Carlos finally arrived, he and Erica took lots of pictures and videos to remember the moment. Just before Erica went into the delivery room, Carlos kissed her on the head and said, “Let’s get these babies out.”
Little did he know that day would be life-changing in more ways than one.
According to Carlos, he and Erica’s quadruplets – three girls and one boy – were delivered via C-section.
Carlo expressed his feelings, saying, “We were really looking forward to starting our family. Then everything fell apart.”
After the heartbreaking loss of his wife, Carlos Morales and his four newborns have touched the hearts of many across the country. “We’re just…
In a tragic turn of events, Erica suffered from hypovolemic shock right after giving birth, which happens when there’s a serious loss of blood and fluids.
Carlos was by Erica’s side when suddenly alarms went off and nurses hurried into the room. He was asked to step outside while they worked on her. When a doctor finally came out an hour later, Carlos received the devastating news that Erica had died.
He thought to himself, “How could this be real? She was okay, and then she wasn’t. One moment she was here, and the next she was gone. I went from the happiest day of my life to the worst day ever. My four little ones were born, and then I lost my wife.”
Thinking back to a conversation he had with Erica, Carlos decided to name the quadruplets Carlos Jr., Paisley, and Tracey. He named the third girl “Erica” in her honor.
On January 16, 2015, the grieving father brought two of his babies home from the hospital, and the other two followed on March 11.
Even though he felt an immense loss and sadness from his wife’s death, Carlos knew he had to be strong for his kids. He took baby-care classes to learn how to bathe them, feed them, and help them sleep. He even learned CPR.
Eventually, Erica’s mother, Sondra Bridges, moved in with Carlos to assist him in taking care of her grandchildren.
Sondra remarked, “It’s interesting how life can change unexpectedly. It’s a mix of happy and sad feelings, but I’m really grateful to God and all the amazing support from everyone. It’s been incredible. I want to express my thanks to all of you. We truly appreciate everything you’ve done for us.”
I can only picture the whirlwind of feelings Carlos experienced when he became a dad to quadruplets under such heartbreaking conditions. What are your thoughts on his story? Share with us in the comments!
