Carville is skeptical about Harris’s chances for a 2028 run after her presidential loss.
James Carville, a seasoned Democratic strategist who played a key role in Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential win, shared a straightforward opinion that has sparked discussion within the party. He believes that former Vice President Kamala Harris will struggle to make a successful bid for any future presidency.
This is significant coming from Carville, as few voices in American politics are as respected as those of veterans who have witnessed many careers rise and fall.
On his Politics War Room podcast, Carville stated that Harris is not expected to play a role in the 2028 race for the Democratic nomination, despite speculation that her choice not to run for California governor might allow her to prepare for another campaign in 2028.

Carville’s perspective stems from a wider party sentiment to move beyond the 2024 election, where Harris’s campaign, despite having strong support and resources, ultimately did not succeed. “Anyone associated with 2024, the party wants to move on from that,” he noted, stressing that this is more about political reality than personal feelings.
Carville’s caution also extended to Harris’s running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and others involved in the 2024 campaign.
The strategist’s message was clear: the political futures of those in the Democratic Party are limited, and they need to proceed carefully.
“This applies to Walz as well. I wouldn’t run again,” he stated.
“If I were your friend or your chief advisor, I would say this not from a personal perspective. The environment for a Democrat in 2024 is not going to favor anyone associated with the 2024 campaign.”
Carville acknowledged Harris’ strong background but emphasized that candidates need to learn from previous errors and adjust to stay relevant. He pointed out what he saw as a weakness in her presidential campaign—her inability to convince voters why change was necessary, which made her message less impactful at crucial moments.

It looks like the 2028 Democratic landscape is beginning to form. While some opportunities may be closing, there are still chances for others to emerge.
Even after losing the 2024 elections to current President Donald Trump, Kamala Harris continues to be a significant figure in the Democratic Party.
