Boy, 14, Dies After ‘Injecting Himself With Butterfly’ In Horror ‘Online Challenge’
A 14-year-old boy sadly passed away after he reportedly injected himself with a butterfly as part of an online challenge.
Davi Nunes Moreira, from Planalto, Brazil, endured a painful seven days in the hospital before he died.
Initially, he told his father that he had hurt himself while playing. However, as his health declined, he eventually confessed to what he had done.
Even though he received specialized medical care, Davi’s condition continued to get worse, and the doctors could not save him.
The official cause of death has not been confirmed yet, but the Civil Police of Bahia have started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
A spokesperson mentioned, “The autopsy results will help determine the cause of death. The investigation aims to uncover what really happened.”

A teenager injected a mixture made from a crushed butterfly into his leg as part of a trend on social media, according to local news reports.
Shortly after the injection, he began to vomit and started limping.
Davi reportedly confessed to the injection after he was taken to the hospital.
He told the medical staff that he had gone to a pharmacy to gather supplies, then mixed a dead butterfly with water before injecting the solution into his leg.
While cleaning the house, Davi’s father is said to have discovered the syringe the teen used hidden under his pillow.
Doctor Luiz Fernando D. Relvas informed the news site VivaBem that the teen’s death might have been caused by “an embolism, an infection, or an allergic reaction.”
The doctor also mentioned, “We don’t know how he made this mixture or the size of the pieces he injected into his body. There could have been air left in the syringe, which might lead to an embolism.”
Investigators are looking into the possibility that Davi went into septic shock after the toxins from the mixture caused his body to fail.

Professor Marcelo Duarte, who is the head of the Zoology Museum at Sao Paulo University and an expert on butterflies, mentioned (according to MailOnline): “Butterflies have intricate biological systems, and the fluids in their bodies haven’t been thoroughly examined for their potential toxicity to humans.”
Several Brazilian news sources are suggesting that Davi might have tried an experiment he found online, but it’s reported that he denied this claim before he passed away.
