The family is mourning the loss of their 11-year-old boy, who passed away linked to a very risky trend on social media. They want to alert others and encourage parents to have conversations with their kids to prevent anyone else from becoming a victim of the same situation.
A concerning trend on TikTok has led to the death of 11-year-old Tommie-Lee Billington from Lancaster, England.
This follows the deaths of two teenage girls who also participated in the same “challenge” on the app, according to reports from The Sun.
It all began when 11-year-old Tommie was at a friend’s house for a sleepover on Saturday. The boys then decided to “huff” after seeing a challenge on the TikTok app.
This means breathing in harmful gases or solvents that create a high. Some examples are dry shampoo, spray deodorant, and glue.
After Tommie and his friend chose to join in on the TikTok trend, the boy’s heart stopped right away. Medical staff reported that he died instantly. Now, his family is grieving the heartbreaking loss of the 11-year-old.
His mother, Sherry, has called on other parents to speak with their kids and prevent them from using TikTok. She shared her message on Facebook, saying, “This cost my son his life for trying something that other kids are doing. Please discuss the consequences with your children. I can’t understand why anyone would even attempt this! It’s incredibly dangerous!”
“I have never experienced pain like this. My whirlwind. I just love you so much, buddy. My baby boy. You will always be in my heart. I will do everything I can to ensure that your name and your beautiful face will be the reason other children’s lives are saved and that other families don’t have to endure this profound, profound pain,” she posted on her Facebook page.
Rest in peace, Tommie. Our thoughts are with the family during this tough time. Now, let’s unite to share this crucial message so that no other children engage in this life-threatening trend!
